Punjab Police arrest seven, including Army soldier, in arms and heroin bust

The Amritsar Rural Police have dismantled four illegal arms and narcotics supply networks, resulting in the arrest of seven individuals. Among those apprehended is a 22-year-old serving Army soldier, Yudhvir Singh, who was home on leave.

Authorities recovered 14 sophisticated pistols and over 20 kg of heroin during the operations. Preliminary investigations suggest the group was in contact with a foreign-based handler who facilitated the smuggling of illegal arms consignments via drones for distribution among criminal elements.

In one specific operation, police intercepted two suspects, Uday and Patras, after they allegedly retrieved a drone-dropped consignment of 10 pistols. Investigations revealed the pair had previously handled approximately 20 to 25 weapon consignments. A report regarding the Army soldier's alleged involvement in cross-border smuggling is being forwarded to senior military authorities.
