Police operations across Austria and Germany target crime and traffic violations

Law enforcement agencies in Austria and Germany conducted various targeted operations throughout late October 2026, focusing on traffic safety, narcotics, and commercial compliance.

In Austria, a coordinated taxi inspection in Vienna and Lower Austria involved 299 checks, resulting in 93 drivers being cited for lacking local knowledge. In another operation, two Georgian nationals were extradited from France and Spain to face charges for an attempted residential burglary in the Weinviertel region. Additionally, police intercepted a Bulgarian truck transporting 200 kilograms of cannabis from Spain to Lower Austria, with an estimated street value exceeding two million euros. Two suspects, a Bulgarian driver and a Slovenian national, were arrested.

In Germany, police in Karlsruhe conducted large-scale traffic monitoring to combat accidents caused by distraction and substance abuse, identifying 58 violations among 118 vehicles. In Mönchengladbach and Rheydt, intensive patrols led to several arrests, including two men suspected of drug trafficking at the main station. Meanwhile, in Wiesbaden, multi-agency inspections involving tax investigators and customs officials uncovered illegal nicotine pouches, non-compliant e-cigarettes, and various regulatory violations in local businesses.
