Police investigate missing person cases in Chile and Peru
Authorities in Chile and Peru are investigating two separate cases involving missing persons.
In Osorno, Chile, 35-year-old Jonathan Zumelzu Garay has been missing since Sunday night. His mother reported finding bloodstains on the floors and walls of their home, as well as a knife with apparent blood residue. While the family expressed concerns regarding potential self-harm, police are investigating the disappearance as a suspected misfortune. The investigation is currently under the direction of the local prosecutor.
In Santiago de Chuco, Peru, a 16-year-old girl who was reported missing on July 25 has reappeared safely. Before her return, the girl's family had received intimidating messages from an individual demanding 100,000 soles for her release. The teenager voluntarily appeared at a local police station, stating she had been receiving threats from her boyfriend, 20-year-old Segundo Martín Rodríguez Ruiz. Rodríguez Ruiz has been detained as police investigate whether the extortion attempt and the disappearance were linked.
