Marburg murder: Suspect arrested in Poland for killing Dejana Pejić
A 42-year-old Polish national has been arrested in Poland following the murder of 35-year-old Dejana Pejić in Marburg, Germany. The victim, a Serbian citizen, was found dead in a bush on Am Erlengraben street on Wednesday, October 21, after being reported missing from the Erlenring-Center shopping mall the previous evening.
Investigators determined that Pejić sustained 19 stab wounds. Preliminary findings suggest the victim and the suspect, identified as Marek R., had a prior relationship. Reports indicate that Pejić had recently been staying in a women's shelter due to a previous partner, though that individual is not linked to this crime. The suspect fled to Poland after the attack but was located through cross-border cooperation between German and Polish authorities.
A national and European arrest warrant was issued by the Marburg District Court. The suspect is currently in custody in Poland and faces extradition to Germany to stand trial. The motive for the killing remains under investigation.
