Police investigate shooting death of 18-year-old in Sobradinho II

Police in the Distrito Federal are investigating the death of 18-year-old Byanca de Araújo Leão, who was shot in the head during a gathering in Sobradinho II. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, March 31, at a residence where the victim and two friends had been invited by three adolescents.

Witnesses reported that one of the adolescents was handling a firearm and had pointed it at the visitors in a supposed joke. Shortly after, the victim approached a room to retrieve a lighter and was struck by a shot. While the case was initially considered for feminicide, the Civil Police of the Distrito Federal (PCDF) have ruled out that motive, instead investigating the death as homicide to determine if the shot was accidental or intentional.

Three adolescents, aged 16 and 17, were apprehended by authorities. They have been charged with an infraction analogous to homicide. During the investigation, police seized four firearms belonging to the father of one of the suspects, who is registered as a collector, marksman, and hunter (CAC). Investigators are working to clarify the dynamics of the shooting and identify which individual discharged the weapon.
