Police investigate two separate newborn abandonment cases in Brazil
Authorities in Brazil are investigating two distinct incidents involving abandoned newborns.
In Cosmópolis, São Paulo, a newborn found in an illegal waste disposal area is in serious condition. The infant, who suffered injuries to the chest and abdomen, underwent surgery and remains in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Unicamp. The Civil Police are investigating the case as an attempted homicide and are working to identify the parents and the circumstances of the abandonment.
In a separate incident in the Del Castilho region of Rio de Janeiro, a newborn was found by a couple and taken to a local Urgent Care Unit (UPA). Police are investigating the abandonment through the 44th DP (Inhaúma). Reports indicate that the mother also arrived at the medical facility to receive care, though the current health status of both the infant and the woman has not been confirmed.
