Assault on Hungarian PM Magyar Péter at Nyugati railway station sparks political fallout

On July 22 2026 a man attacked Hungarian Prime Minister Magyar Péter at Budapest’s Nyugati railway station during a press event. The assault was captured on video, and the prime minister responded only with a brief "good health" comment, saying he would not file a complaint. Former Fidesz member Tényi István later filed a criminal complaint alleging the attacker’s conduct violated human dignity. Szentkirályi Alexandra, a Fidesz MP, posted a sharp reaction on social media, condemning the violence and criticizing party leaders. Hungarian prosecutors have now taken the case to the investigating magistrate, and the matter remains under legal review. The incident was also reported in Macedonian media, confirming the same assault at the station.
