Police officer and accomplice arrested with 5,310 yaba tablets in Dhaka

Police in Dhaka have arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) from the Pallabi Police Station and a young man following a major drug seizure. The suspects, identified as 43-year-old ASI Md. Shafiqul Islam and 24-year-old Wasiim, were apprehended during operations in the Uttara Azampur Kacha Bazar and Bismillah Palli areas.

Authorities recovered a total of 5,310 pieces of yaba tablets. The operation began after receiving intelligence regarding drug sales. During the initial raid, Wasiim was caught with 50 pieces of yaba while attempting to flee. Following his interrogation, police raided a rented apartment where they arrested ASI Shafiqul Islam with 200 pieces. A subsequent raid at a flat in Bismillah Palli yielded an additional 5,060 pieces.

According to the Pallabi Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Shafiqul Islam had been absent from his duties since shortly after his transfer to the station in July. Both suspects have been charged under the Narcotics Control Act and were ordered to be sent to jail by the court. The investigation also names two to three unidentified individuals in the case.
