Police officer at large after fatal shooting in Eldoret

A police officer is at large following the fatal shooting of a 45-year-old woman at the General Service Unit (GSU) Mess compound in Naiberi, Uasin Gishu County. The incident occurred on Sunday, August 30, at approximately 5:00 pm.

The deceased, identified as Doris Murei Nandi, was reportedly consuming alcohol at the compound when a dispute arose with a police constable, identified as Nathan Kirwa. Following the altercation, the officer allegedly shot the woman, killing her instantly.

Investigators from the Uasin Gishu County Scene of Crime Management Unit processed the scene, recovering seven spent 9mm cartridges, a pistol holster, and a Toyota Corolla vehicle. While some reports mention a rifle, others indicate the recovery of 9mm cartridges consistent with a pistol. The suspect fled the scene immediately after the shooting, and a manhunt is currently underway. The victim's body has been moved to a mortuary in Eldoret pending a postmortem examination.
