Fatal shootings in Kenya

Overview

Reports of fatal shootings in Kenya have emerged across different counties, involving both police actions and unidentified assailants.

In mid-August, two separate incidents were recorded. In Kisumu County, a police officer shot and killed an unidentified man at Masogo Market after the individual allegedly acted aggressively with a panga and ignored orders to surrender. In Kilifi County, a 70-year-old man was killed in a late-night attack by a masked gunman on a motorcycle in Viambini Village. While the motive for the Kilifi shooting remains unestablished, preliminary investigations noted the deceased was involved in local land dealings.

By late August, a third incident occurred in Uasin Gishu County. A police constable, identified as Nathan Kirwa, allegedly shot and killed a 45-year-old woman following a dispute at the General Service Unit (GSU) Mess compound in Naiberi. Following the shooting, the officer fled the scene. Investigators recovered several 9mm cartridges and a pistol holster at the site, and a manhunt is currently underway to locate the suspect.
