Police Officer Şevket Atabay Dies in Konya, Turkey

Senior police officer Şevket Atabay, 50, suffered a heart attack on 17 July 2026 while serving in the Ilgın district of Konya Province. He was hospitalized and spent about two weeks in intensive care before passing away on 30 July 2026.

A funeral service was held on Friday in the Söğütözü neighbourhood of Kadınhanı district. After the Friday prayer, colleagues, family members, local residents and Konya Police Directorate chief Necmettin Koç attended the ceremony. Atabay was buried in Söğütözü Cemetery following prayers and tributes from his fellow officers.
