Police officer rescues couple from jet ski accident in Isla Cristina
José Antonio Sánchez, an off-duty National Police officer stationed in Almendralejo, rescued a couple in distress after they fell from a jet ski in Isla Cristina, Huelva.
While returning to the port on a rented boat with friends and family, Sánchez noticed a jet ski drifting without a rider. Upon investigation, he discovered a man, who is paraplegic, and his wife, who could not swim, struggling in the water. The man had been in the sea for approximately 20 to 30 minutes, battling strong currents that made it nearly impossible for him to climb back onto the vehicle due to his lack of leg mobility.
Sánchez jumped from his boat into the water to assist. The rescue proved difficult as the jet ski repeatedly lost stability and overturned while he attempted to lift the man. After several failed attempts to use the jet ski as a platform, Sánchez had to adjust his strategy to manage the weight and the movement of the water to ensure both individuals reached safety.
