Plateau State insecurity: IGP Disu vows tougher police action

Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu visited Plateau State on Wednesday to address a surge in violent attacks and killings across several local government areas. The visit follows a series of deadly incidents, including a recent attack near the Barkin Ladi-Bokkos border that killed three people, and an assault on vigilantes in the NTV community. Other reported violence includes an ambush of commuters at Dungus Junction and attacks in Mangu and Riyom.

During his visit, Disu met with Plateau State officials, including Deputy Governor Josephine Piyo, to express solidarity with victims. He pledged to intensify security operations, improve intelligence gathering, and move toward a more proactive policing stance. The IGP also noted that arrests have been made in connection with recent incidents and emphasized the need for synergy between the police and local communities to restore peace.

In a separate engagement at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Disu proposed the creation of an Orange Economy Security and Intellectual Property Coordination Desk within the Nigeria Police Force. This initiative aims to protect the creative industries, such as film and music, from crimes like piracy and counterfeiting.
