Police operations in Dominican Republic and Chile result in death and arrest

In Higüey, Dominican Republic, 24-year-old Roberto Then Almeida, known as ‘Yensy’ or ‘El Mello’, died following a confrontation with police. Members of the Central Investigation Directorate (Dicrim) were conducting raids to locate him when the incident occurred on Thursday afternoon. Then Almeida, who had seven active police records and was wanted for robbery and physical aggression, was transported to the Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia Specialty Hospital, where he passed away while receiving medical attention.

In Talca, Chile, the Investigative Police (PDI) captured a man who had been a fugitive since 2017. The suspect was wanted by courts in Ancud and Santiago for sexual offenses committed against a 13-year-old minor. Following investigations involving surveillance and information gathering, detectives located the individual in the Maule Region. The suspect has been placed in preventive detention.
