Police operations target child sex offenders through undercover stings

Law enforcement agencies have conducted undercover operations resulting in multiple arrests related to the sexual exploitation of minors. In Aurora, the SAFE Kids operation led to the arrest of 13 suspects following investigations into websites used for internet luring and human trafficking. Detectives utilized undercover minor-aged personas to engage suspects. Among those arrested were individuals facing charges of internet luring, attempted sexual assault, and sexual exploitation. Some suspects reportedly re-engaged with undercover officers after initially stopping communication upon learning the persona was a minor.

In Bend, a 47-year-old man was arrested following an undercover police operation after a 16-year-old reported being approached regarding babysitting, followed by uncomfortable messages. The incident has prompted calls for increased youth prevention education through programs like Teens Against Trafficking, managed by the organization In Our Backyard (IOB).
