Police prevent lynching of two teenagers in Potosí
Police in the Lagunillas community, located in the Potosí department of Bolivia, intervened to prevent the lynching of two adolescents, aged 15 and 16. The minors were accused by local community members of being involved in the theft of 100,000 Bolivianos.
Upon arriving at a local educational facility following an alert, officers found the teenagers tied to flagpoles while approximately one hundred people participated in a community assembly. Through mediation and persuasion, police managed to secure the release of the minors, who were moved to a school assembly hall.
Assistant Prosecutor Michael Garzón Aguitre and a defense lawyer also arrived at the scene to assist in preventing vigilante justice. The adolescents were eventually placed under the care of their parents while the Public Ministry continues its investigation into the alleged robbery.
