Police prevent multiple telecommunications fraud attempts in Taiwan and China
Police in Taiwan and China have successfully intervened in multiple recent attempts by individuals to fall victim to telecommunications and investment scams.
In Changhua, Taiwan, officers at the Minzu Road Police Station prevented a woman from transferring approximately 237,000 TWD to a stranger. The woman claimed she was repaying a debt to a friend's husband, but she was unable to provide basic details about the recipient, such as age or registered address. After police explained common fraudulent tactics, the woman canceled the transaction.
In Yantai, China, the High-tech Zone Public Security Bureau prevented two separate offline transaction scams, saving over 90,000 RMB. In one instance, police located a woman attempting to deliver 40,000 RMB in cash, and in another, they intercepted a man attempting to hand over 50,000 RMB. Authorities have issued warnings against high-commission part-time job offers and suspicious offline cash or gold transactions.
