Police raid in Maastricht leads to arrest of Belgian drug suspect

Dutch police carried out a raid on a property on Frankenstraat in Maastricht after receiving multiple tips about drug trafficking. The operation, conducted around 20:00, involved officers and municipal authorities and found a number of people inside the building. A 45‑year‑old man from Lanaken, Belgium, was arrested on suspicion of violating the Opium Act. While officials have not disclosed the exact type or quantity of narcotics recovered, the investigation continues to determine the roles of the other occupants and whether further arrests will follow. Local authorities are also reviewing possible administrative measures, including the possible closure of the premises, to address public safety concerns.
