Jeong Chang-seong identified in Chinese student murder case
The Gyeongbuk Provincial Police Agency has released the identity of Jeong Chang-seong, a 31-year-old Chinese university lecturer accused of murdering a 25-year-old Chinese female student in Gyeongsan.
According to police, the incident occurred in the early hours of August 20 at Jeong's studio apartment in Hayang-eup. The suspect is accused of killing the student, who was a former student in his course, and subsequently mutilating and disposing of her body in various locations, including mountains and trash sites in Gunpo and Gyeongju.
Investigators revealed that Jeong attempted to evade detection by dressing in women's clothing to mimic the victim and traveling to Dongdaegu Station to turn off her mobile phone. He also reportedly filed a false missing person report, claiming to be the victim's boyfriend.
Jeong faces five criminal charges: murder, damage to a corpse, kidnapping, concealment, and obstruction of official duties. The police decided to disclose his personal information, including his name and photo, citing the cruelty of the crime and the public interest. He is expected to be transferred to the prosecution by October 4.
