Police seize €18,660 and cannabis after traffic stop in Brussels suburb

On 10 June 2026, officers of the Brussels‑West police zone stopped a vehicle committing a traffic violation on the Ghent road in Berchem‑Sainte‑Agathe. The driver appeared nervous and repeatedly moved his hand toward his thigh despite police orders to keep his hands on the wheel.

Police detected the odor of cannabis and found a visible opening in the central console suggesting a hidden compartment. A search of the occupants and the vehicle uncovered 2.66 grams of cannabis, €1,560 in cash on a suspect, €5,650 in the glove box, and an additional €11,450 during a later inspection, bringing the total seized amount to €18,660. The two individuals and the vehicle were taken to the Brussels prosecutor’s office.
