Police seize narcotics, ammunition and casino machines in Ghana's Upper East Region
Between May 25 and June 3, 2026, Ghana’s Upper East Regional Police Command, supported by the Inspector‑General’s Special Operations Team, carried out an intelligence‑led operation across Zuarungu, Bolgatanga, Tongo, Bongo and parts of the Nabdam District. The raids resulted in the arrest of 80 suspects – including three Nigerian and one Ghanaian women – and the seizure of narcotics, 5.56 × 45 mm NATO ammunition, unregistered motorbikes and several casino jackpot machines.
Police statements said the suspects were involved in narcotic trafficking and related criminal activities. Seized items ranged from dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and foreign cigarettes to motorbikes of various makes and a casino machine. All detainees have been placed in custody pending court proceedings.
