Police union challenges Ceuta port camp installation
The Sindicato Unificado de Policía (SUP), a major union for the Spanish National Police, has filed a legal challenge with the Audiencia Nacional to halt the establishment of a temporary reception camp at the Port of Ceuta.
The union is contesting a resolution by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility that permits the use of approximately 16,000 square meters of the port to house nearly 1,000 people. The SUP is requesting urgent precautionary measures to suspend the installation until safety, emergency, and occupational risk prevention standards are verified.
The union expressed concern regarding the concentration of a large number of people within critical infrastructure surrounded by fuel and energy installations. They cited recent fires in Ceuta settlements as evidence for the need to evaluate evacuation and emergency response risks for both the residents and port workers.
