Police units deployed to Kumamoto for earthquake relief
Police departments are increasing their presence in Kumamoto to support recovery efforts following the Kumamoto earthquake.
The Metropolitan Police Department is dispatching 24 members of its ‘Kizuna-tai’ unit to the disaster area through August 26. This marks the sixth time the unit, originally formed following the Great East Japan Earthquake, has been deployed. The team will provide crime prevention advice and life consultation services to residents in evacuation centers to help reduce anxiety and stress.
Additionally, the Kyoto Prefectural Police is sending approximately 10 officers and three patrol cars to the affected regions from August 18 to 27. These officers will operate as a special mobile patrol unit to assist with local security and disaster relief efforts.
