Police warn of electronic ID identity theft scams

Police in Can Tho have issued a warning regarding fraudulent schemes targeting citizens' electronic identification accounts. Criminals are reportedly impersonating police officers to gain trust and solicit sensitive personal information, authentication codes, or bank account details.

These actors may use various tactics, such as requesting users to update information, synchronize data, or verify accounts via phone calls, messages, or social media. Some methods involve directing victims to malicious links or unauthorized applications to gain control of devices and steal assets. The Ministry of Public Security has specifically warned against the use of fake VNeID applications and malicious links designed to compromise user security.
