Police warn public about impersonation and remote‑access phone scams

Police in Regina, Canada, have issued a warning after reports of scammers pretending to be officers or members of the Regina Police Service to solicit charitable donations. The force emphasized that it never contacts individuals to request funds, advising residents to avoid sharing personal information, refusing unsolicited calls, and never sending money to unknown parties. The warning also highlighted ongoing “grandparent” scams targeting seniors.

In Cyprus, authorities have cautioned citizens about a separate phone fraud where callers claim to represent a financial transactions platform and request remote access to a victim’s mobile phone or computer to “protect” bank accounts. Police stressed that the aim is to hijack accounts and steal money, urging the public to never grant remote access, keep personal and banking details confidential, and verify any communications through official channels.
