Polish agriculture hit by pork price slump and rapeseed import push

The Polish pork sector is in crisis, with producers losing up to 200 zł per animal as slaughter prices have fallen to about 4.50 zł while feed, energy and labour costs remain high. AgroIntegracja chief Wojciech Styburski said the organisation will stop supplying plants that do not meet certified quality systems, urging a shift toward quality‑based protectionism and greater cooperation among producers.

At the same time, Poland’s oilseed‑crushing industry is struggling with a shortage of domestic rapeseed and rising energy costs. The Polish Oilseed Producers Association (PSPO) has called for the embargo on Ukrainian rapeseed to be lifted, arguing that imports are needed to keep refineries competitive. Farmers have reacted angrily, calling the proposal unacceptable and demanding higher domestic rapeseed prices despite a reported deficit of up to 1.3 million tonnes.
