Polish authorities advance major financial crime prosecutions
Two separate legal proceedings involving major financial damages in Poland have reached significant milestones.
In Gdańsk, the District Court overturned a previous decision to dismiss a case against three former executives of the State Forests (Lasy Państwowe) management in the Pomerania region. The defendants, Bartłomiej O., Jan B., and Józef K., face charges of exceeding authority and failing to fulfill duties between 2021 and 2024. Prosecutors allege these actions placed the institution at risk of massive financial loss. The higher court ruled that the initial dismissal was premature and that the evidence should be evaluated during a full trial.
In Warsaw, prosecutors have filed an indictment against representatives, board members, and supervisory board members of GetBack S.A. The investigation, conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBŚP) and the CBA, alleges that the accused manipulated the company's financial structure to benefit an external entity, resulting in financial damages exceeding 1.3 billion PLN. The indictment includes charges of causing large-scale property damage, harming creditors, and committing accounting and restructuring crimes. Assets including art, vehicles, and real estate valued at approximately 4 million PLN have been secured.
