Polish bishops grant meat dispensation for June 5 Friday after Corpus Christi

Bishop Wojciech Osial of the Łowicz diocese issued a dispensation permitting faithful in his jurisdiction to eat meat on Friday 5 June 2026, the day following the Corpus Christi celebration. The decree requires an alternative form of penance, such as prayer for the Holy Father, almsgiving, or other acts of Christian charity.

Most other Polish bishops issued similar dispensations for the same date. Several bishops, including archbishops Tadeusz Wojda (Gdańsk), Andrzej Przybylski (Katowice), Jan Piotrowski (Kielce) and Wiesław Lechowicz (Military Ordinariate), asked those receiving the dispensation to pray for new priestly vocations. Others, such as archbishops Adrian Galbas (Warsaw) and Zbigniew Zieliński (Poznań), encouraged the faithful to perform charitable works or offer prayers in the intention of the Pope. A few dioceses, for example Warsaw‑Praga under Bishop Romuald Kamiński, granted the dispensation without any additional obligations.
