Polish Catholic summer pilgrimages and regional activities

Overview

The summer pilgrimage season in Poland has reached a peak, with thousands of participants arriving at the Jasna Góra sanctuary. Since April, over 71,000 people have participated in various walking, cycling, and running pilgrimages. Notable arrivals include the 48th Radom, 46th Krakow, and 315th Warsaw pilgrimages, as well as a 300-kilometer penitential journey from Warsaw characterized by the traditional Tridentine Mass.

Ongoing movements toward Częstochowa include the 163rd Wieluń Pilgrimage, with over 450 participants walking under the theme “Mary – peace and goodness,” and a group of 180 pilgrims from Przedborno trekking for world peace. The 44th Tarnów Walking Pilgrimage saw over 7,000 faithful reach the sanctuary, with many wearing traditional highlander attire. Additionally, the 10th Przasnysz Bicycle Pilgrimage completed a nearly 400-kilometer route.

In the Diocese of Świdnica, a historic tour of a Black Madonna copy is scheduled to visit nearly 190 parishes through April 2027. This initiative received a message of blessing from Pope Leo XIV, who encouraged the faithful to seek spiritual gifts through the intercession of Mary.

Following the main season, participants of the Warmian Walking Pilgrimage gathered in Olsztyn for a meeting at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. During a Holy Mass, director Father Paweł Szumowski urged pilgrims to reflect on the spiritual impact of their journey, asking, “What has remained from that road?” and emphasizing that the value of a pilgrimage lies in its ability to produce fruits like forgiveness and faith in daily life. An upcoming pilgrimage from Olsztyn to Gietrzwałd is scheduled for September 13.
