Polish cities Białystok and Wieliczka expand electric bus fleets with state and EU funding

The municipal transport operator in Białystok has received 30 new Yutong U12 electric buses, each 12 m long and capable of carrying at least 71 passengers. The purchase, costing 82.75 million zł, was financed with more than 67 million zł of non‑repayable support from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, bringing the city’s electric fleet to 50 vehicles out of a total of 288. The project also added 28 charging units – 25 stationary stations and three mobile chargers – to the local infrastructure.

In the neighbouring Małopolskie region, the Wieliczka municipality secured over 18 million zł in grant funding for a project worth more than 26 million zł. The plan includes five zero‑emission electric buses (one 12‑metre and four 10‑metre models) equipped with passenger‑information systems, monitoring, ticket‑payment devices and accessibility features. Supporting infrastructure will comprise a transformer station, a power network and four charging points, as well as 14 e‑paper display boards at bus stops. The investment is aimed at reducing emissions and improving public transport quality, with completion targeted for the end of 2028.
