Polish cities implement or consider nighttime alcohol sale restrictions

Polish cities are implementing or considering restrictions on the nighttime sale of alcohol.

In Zielona Góra, city councilors have passed a resolution to restrict the sale of alcohol intended for consumption outside of purchase locations. Starting October 1, 2026, these restrictions will apply daily between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM at shops and gas stations, though restaurants and gastronomic establishments are exempt.

In Gliwice, local authorities have launched public consultations to determine whether to introduce similar restrictions. Residents can vote via electronic or paper forms between August 26 and September 16 regarding a proposed ban on alcohol sales in shops and gas stations between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM. The proposal excludes restaurants and pubs. The initiative follows data from local police, municipal guards, and medical services showing a high volume of interventions during late-night hours.
