Polish Cities Ostrołęka and Konin Rise in Municipal Wealth Rankings

The city of Ostrołęka has entered the top three of the wealth ranking of Polish municipalities published by the magazine Wspólnota. The ranking, compiled by professor Paweł Swianiewicz of the National Institute of Local Government, measures per‑capita wealth based on own revenues and subventions while excluding targeted grants. Ostrołęka’s high position reflects its strong fiscal base, though the city has historically lagged in investment spending; recent years have seen a notable increase in capital projects, narrowing the gap with leading cities such as Sopot and Płock.

Konin placed sixth in the same 2025 ranking, climbing four spots from the previous year. The city recorded a per‑capita wealth of 10 585.90 zł and posted a budget surplus of about 5.6 million zł, with an operational surplus of 18.8 million zł. Mayor Piotr Korytkowski highlighted ongoing investments in green infrastructure, a pioneering hydrogen bus fleet, and efforts to attract a second nuclear power plant and a large data‑center project. Recent municipal projects include a new pedestrian‑bicycle bridge, water‑sewer system upgrades, and building modernisation.
