Polish cities Piła and Nowy Targ advance municipal energy projects

The city of Piła signed a cooperation agreement with the Polish Electrical Engineers Association (SEP) to lower energy costs, improve energy security and modernise the municipality’s power management. Mayor Beata Dudzińska and SEP board member Lech Żak, who will act as the city’s energy envoy, concluded the pact. SEP will analyse Piła’s energy infrastructure, propose renewable‑energy, storage and anti‑blackout solutions and advise on possible local energy cooperatives.

In Nowy Targ, the city council approved a one‑million‑zloty capital injection into the municipal heating company MPEC. The funds will be used to convert a coal boiler to burn biomass, expanding heating capacity, reducing emissions under the EU Emissions Trading System and allowing any savings to be redirected to new heat‑network connections in the city centre. Both initiatives aim to strengthen local energy resilience and support environmental goals.
