Polish coal miner JSW secures 287 million zł state subsidy for 2026 mining leave program
Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa (JSW) signed a subsidy agreement with Poland's Ministry of Energy worth about 287 million zł to finance mining leave and processing‑plant leave in 2026. The programme will cover 3,092 workers, granting them up to five years before retirement a mining leave paid at 80 % of their salary, while plant‑workers may take leave for up to four years. In total, the broader protection programme, including one‑off severance payments, is expected to involve 4,248 employees and cost roughly 500 million zł this year. The subsidy forms part of a state‑backed transformation of the hard‑coal sector slated for 2026‑2031. Following the announcement, JSW's shares fell about 2.1 % to 24.58 PLN, reflecting investor concerns over the company's profitability despite the financial support.
