Polish coalition to attempt override of presidential veto

The Polish governing coalition plans to attempt to override a presidential veto regarding the act on the status of a close person during the upcoming Sejm session scheduled for September 2-4. Government plenipotentiary for equality, Katarzyna Kotula, has expressed hope that the legislative majority can successfully overturn the decision made by President Karol Nawrocki.

To achieve the necessary threshold of over 270 votes, the coalition is looking toward the newly formed Rozwój Plus parliamentary club, led by Mateusz Morawiecki. There is ongoing political debate regarding whether members of this new club, some of whom were previously associated with PiS, will support the government's efforts or remain loyal to the president's position.

Opposition members from PiS have criticized the move, suggesting that Prime Minister Tusk is using the issue to introduce worldview-based topics to distract the public from other pressing matters.
