Polish Counties Launch New Civil Defense Shelters and Warehouse

In Piotrków County, local authorities are preparing two temporary civil‑defence shelters in the basements of a building on Tadeusza Kościuszki Street in Wola Krzysztoporska and in the primary school in Gomulin. The design work for both sites costs a total of 77,490 zł and will enable the shelters to protect up to 240 people. Planned upgrades include reinforced ceilings, reinforced windows, additional emergency exits, ventilation capable of maintaining safe oxygen levels for at least 48 hours, and the installation of water, sewage, electricity and heating systems.

Meanwhile, in the Bieruń‑Lędziny district, construction has begun on a 1,200 m² civil‑defence warehouse in Ściernia near the local fire‑rescue unit. The project, valued at over 7 million zł and slated for completion by 2027, will centralise equipment such as a technical rescue vehicle, excavator, drone and medical devices. Funding comes from a national civil‑defence programme, with roughly 4 million zł secured by the municipality and an additional 5.5 million zł allocated to the fire service.
