Polish courts convict father and wójt for drunk‑driving offenses

A 39‑year‑old man from the gmina of Sępopol was arrested after police observed him riding his teenage son on a motorcycle while intoxicated. Marek K., the wójt of the gmina Niedźwiada, was found guilty of driving under the influence with a blood‑alcohol level exceeding 1 ‰. He claimed he was transporting oxygen for fish in his farm ponds. The court imposed a fine of 12,000 zł, an additional 8,000 zł payment to a victims' fund, and a three‑year prohibition on operating motor vehicles, with an exception for agricultural machines.
