Polish cybercrime ring arrested for cryptocurrency thefts

Polish authorities announced the dismantling of a cybercrime group that cloned phone numbers and hacked cryptocurrency exchange accounts to steal millions of zlotys. The Central Office for Combating Cybercrime (CBZC) worked with the U.S. FBI and Homeland Security Investigations to arrest four suspects on charges of organized crime, money laundering and illegal access to computer systems. Prosecutors in Kraków have taken the suspects into custody and they face up to 25 years in prison. The group used both custom software and social‑engineering to obtain login credentials, transferred stolen funds through Polish and foreign bank accounts and multi‑currency digital wallets, and laundered tens of millions of zlotys.

The operation highlights cross‑border cooperation against organized cyber‑theft targeting crypto markets, and officials say detailed information about the investigation will remain confidential pending further legal proceedings.
