Polish doctors face tax audits amid alleged evasion

Poland’s tax authority has intensified checks on medical professionals. In the past 18 months, 82 tax inspections of doctors uncovered tax gaps of about 9.4 million zł, with an average of roughly 114 thousand zł per audit. Broader tax‑checking activities involving around 23 000 cases have identified irregularities totalling near 109 million zł.

There are approximately 141.5 thousand doctors in Poland, of which roughly 70 % operate private practices or work on B2B contracts. Authorities have flagged problems such as mis‑classification of aesthetic procedures to obtain VAT exemptions, errors in invoicing, and misuse of flat‑rate or linear tax regimes. The findings highlight significant compliance gaps in the health‑care sector’s fiscal reporting.
