Polish e-commerce market expands as Empik marketplace surpasses 1 billion PLN GMV
The Polish e-commerce sector is experiencing steady growth. Data from Dun & Bradstreet Poland indicates that approximately 1,200 new online stores were added to the market in the first half of the year. The total number of Polish e-shops is approaching 75,000, with projections suggesting it could reach 100,000 by the end of the decade.
Empik.com has expanded its marketplace offering to over 20 million products. In 2025, the Empik Marketplace saw its Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) exceed 1 billion PLN, representing a 40 percent year-over-year increase. The marketplace has become the company’s fastest-growing sales channel, driven by categories such as gaming, cosmetics, electronics, and toys.
Industry experts suggest that as the domestic market stabilizes, Polish e-commerce businesses should look toward international expansion to maintain growth. Experts note that while building a domestic customer base provides stability, competing globally will require more than just price advantages, focusing instead on trust, efficient delivery, and ease of returns.
