Polish ex‑minister Marcin Romanowski asks court to drop part of Justice Fund case

Lawyers for former Polish deputy justice minister Marcin Romanowski have filed a request with prosecutors to partially dismiss the investigation into the Justice Fund scandal and to lift his temporary detention. The defence cites a recent court ruling on the extradition of former minister Zbigniew Ziobro, which limited the applicable charges to 19 of the 26‑27 alleged offences. Prosecutors have not yet ruled on the request.

If granted, the partial dismissal could lead to the cancellation of the European Arrest Warrant issued against Romanowski. The politician is currently residing in Hungary, where officials have said the country will not become a haven for internationally wanted criminals. The case carries potential penalties of up to 25 years in prison.
