Polish experts warn of severe injuries from high‑speed electric scooters
Medical and engineering specialists from Białystok University of Technology and the University Children’s Hospital explain that electric scooters travelling above the legal 20 km/h limit can cause multi‑site trauma. A 19‑year‑old suffered catastrophic head and limb injuries after colliding with a car, requiring intensive care and long‑term rehabilitation. Experts highlight that small wheels and high speeds generate kinetic energy equivalent to several kilograms of weight falling from height, making helmets and speed limits essential. They note that, by June 2026, the regional trauma centre had treated 56 patients with scooter‑related injuries, urging stricter adherence to safety regulations.
