Polish police and fire services handle weekend traffic accidents, storms and floods

Over the weekend of 19‑21 June 2026 a series of incidents across Poland required extensive police and fire‑brigade activity.

On local roads in Łowicz County police intervened in several traffic collisions caused by speeding, unsafe distance and lane‑changing, issuing fines but reporting no injuries. In the town of Bochnia police presence was heightened around a busy market; officers arrested two young men after finding a knife, a telescopic baton, pepper spray and a wooden axe‑handle, securing the items for further investigation. Police in Złotów managed 71 public‑order calls, 10 road collisions and one drunken‑driving arrest while supporting the Euro Eco Meeting.

Meanwhile a severe storm front swept western Poland, prompting the State Fire Service to record more than 3,600 interventions, chiefly clearing wind‑blown debris, draining flooded basements and repairing roof damage. The same winds felled trees and damaged forest stands in Jarocin County, leading the local forest district to close sections of the woods from 20 June to 20 July for safety.

In the coastal town of Bytów heavy rain caused flash flooding that washed out road surfaces, stranded vehicles and damaged a newly built beach, with authorities still assessing the total loss.
