Polish Firefighters Deploy to Spain for Major Forest Fire Relief

Poland is sending a 105‑person State Fire Service team, including twelve firefighters from the Lower Silesian region, to aid Spanish crews in fighting the largest forest fires recorded in recent years in the Castilla‑La Mancha region. The mission, running from 1 August to 30 August 2026, will be carried out under the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism as part of the Ground Forest Fire Fighting (GFFF) module. Minister of the Interior and Administration Marcin Kierwiński highlighted that the deployment will provide specialised expertise for difficult, Mediterranean terrain and high‑temperature conditions, building on previous Polish missions such as those in Greece. The Polish contingent will operate alongside local Spanish authorities to combat the severe blaze threatening the province of Ávila and surrounding areas.
