Polish fire services international assistance

In late July 2026, Poland's volunteer fire units engaged in two distinct overseas activities that underscore a broader pattern of international cooperation.

On 25 July, the Witnica fire brigade received a full set of hydraulic rescue tools from the West Pomeranian State Fire Service to replace equipment lost in a depot fire. The transfer, organized through the Gryfin County Fire Service, aimed to restore the brigade’s technical rescue capabilities. In the same week, a delegation from Gizałki traveled to Anor, France, where they met counterparts from the Czech town of Příbram and the Belgian municipality of Momignies. The four‑day visit focused on exchanging best practices, discussing rescue system organization, and showcasing new firefighting technologies, strengthening long‑term ties among the participating services.

Two days later, on 27 July, Poland dispatched a 105‑person State Fire Service team, including twelve Lower Silesian firefighters, to assist Spanish crews combating record‑breaking forest fires in Castilla‑La Mancha. The operation, scheduled from 1 August to 30 August under the EU Civil Protection Mechanism’s Ground Forest Fire Fighting module, provided specialised expertise for the Mediterranean terrain and high‑temperature conditions. Minister Marcin Kierwiński highlighted the mission as part of Poland’s continued support to EU partners, building on earlier deployments such as those to Greece.

Together, these episodes illustrate Poland’s active role in cross‑border fire‑fighting collaboration, ranging from equipment aid and knowledge exchange to direct operational support in large‑scale emergencies.
