Polish grocery market: Price reports and brand taste comparisons

A recent ASM FSA report indicates that the average cost of a basket of essential daily products in Poland was 320.10 PLN in September. This represents a 0.21% increase compared to August, though it is a 0.91% decrease compared to the previous year. Price variations across retailers were significant, with a difference of over 75 PLN between the cheapest basket at Auchan and the most expensive at Netto. While Intermarche saw the largest price increase of 4.52%, Aldi recorded the largest decrease of 4.82%.

In a separate consumer study, a blind taste test of 15 food categories compared well-known brands against private labels from discount retailers Biedronka and Lidl. The results suggested that higher prices do not consistently correlate with better taste. Both Biedronka and the original brand names received 33 points each, despite the branded basket costing nearly twice as much as the discount alternatives.
