Polish health agency imposes water use restrictions in Zduny and Bóbr River

The State County Sanitary Inspectorate in Łowicz reported elevated microbial counts in water supplied to the village of Złakówa Borowe in the Gmina Zduny. While the water is not deemed a health hazard, authorities declared it conditionally potable, requiring residents to boil water for at least two minutes before drinking, cooking or washing food, though it may be used unboiled for laundry, toilet flushing and cleaning.

Separately, the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Governor reaffirmed a ban on recreational and commercial use of the Bóbr River between the Pilchowice Dam and the Rakowice reservoir. The prohibition, based on microbiological findings, covers swimming, animal watering, amateur and commercial fishing, and any water‑based activities, even though tests found no excess mercury and tap water drawn from deep wells remains safe for consumption.

Both measures are part of ongoing monitoring by regional sanitary and environmental authorities to protect public health while work continues to restore full water quality standards.
