Polish health experts stress cancer prevention and early detection
Małgorzata Pluta of the County Sanitary‑Epidemiological Station in Słupca visited a local school on 22 May to educate pupils about preventive measures for breast, cervical and testicular cancer. She emphasized the importance of timely self‑examinations and provided hands‑on practice with medical phantoms to help students recognize suspicious changes.
Polish hematologists warned that chronic immune activation, long‑lasting infections and persistent inflammation can raise the long‑term risk of blood and lymph‑system cancers. Data from the Polish Onco‑Hematology Register show 16,302 new cases and 6,968 deaths from these cancers in 2023, a roughly 5 % rise in mortality over the previous year. Experts urged regular blood counts, healthy lifestyle choices and prompt investigation of symptoms such as unexplained fatigue, bruising or persistent fevers to enable early diagnosis and treatment.
