Polish Health Ministry raises DUI driver re‑education fees and pushes generic drug reforms

On 24 June 2026 a new regulation issued by Poland’s Minister of Health will raise the fee for the mandatory re‑education course for drivers caught driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs from 500 zł to 2 500 zł. The change is presented as a deterrent measure and to fully cover the cost of the specialised training, which will now also cover the health risks of alcohol and similar substances.

At the same time the ministry has drafted a comprehensive amendment to the drug‑reimbursement act. The proposal would require hospitals to provide newly qualified patients in drug programmes with generic or biosimilar equivalents, speed the launch of new therapies, limit payer‑budget impact and encourage domestic production of medicines. The reforms aim to lower treatment costs and improve access to therapies for patients.
