Polish heritage sites receive multi‑million złoty funding
The Strzelce Opolskie County signed agreements to carry out conservation work on local historic assets, allocating over a million złoty this year. Grants include 40,000 zł for repairing the cemetery fence of St Wawrzyńca parish, 10,000 zł for restoring the sandstone portal at St Simon and Jude in Szymiszów, 20,000 zł for roof repairs at a historic school building in Grodzisko, and funding for conserving paintings in the shrine of Our Lady of Snow in Olszowa.
Separately, the Polish Ministry of Culture awarded more than 14.3 million zł under its 2026 “Heritage Protection” programme to entities in the Lesser Poland region. Among the beneficiaries, the Cistercian Abbey in Szczyrzyce received 252,000 zł to install fire‑safety measures in its church and monastic structures. The ceremony was attended by Culture Minister Bożena Żelazowska and Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz, among other officials.
